Here are five things that could negatively affect the value of your home:  

1) Putting off necessary maintenance: This can have a significant impact on the value of your home. Small problems can become big problems if not addressed in time. Periodically check for leaks, weird smells or stains, etc...

2) Badly done renovations: improvements can add value, but only if done right! Jobs done poorly or that do not comply with city codes and regulations can negatively affect the appraised value of your home. It is important to invest wisely!

3) Not paying attention to the look of your kitchen and bathrooms: Keep in mind that bathrooms and kitchens are key areas. An old design can make your home look outdated. 5) Not paying attention to your house's roof: This is one of the most critical parts of your home. A damaged roof can be a big turnoff for prospect buyers if you wish to sell, and also a threat to the safety of everyone in the home. Be sure to address any roof issues as soon as they arise, and specially if you're thinking of putting your home on the market.
